井上陽水「灰色の指先」
CDアルバム『white』（1978）と『Blue Selection』（2002）で「灰色の指先」を聴いた。作詞・作曲/井上陽水 編曲/星勝（78年）・井上陽水（2002年）。なお、1886年のライブ版アルバム『クラムチャウダー』にも収録されていて、こちらのアレンジは、大村憲司である。
♪彼の性格はひどい無口

♪20才まえまでは誰にも会わずに
♪いつも壁のそばに居た
「彼」という代名詞を使っている曲は珍しいのではないだろうか。「ライバル」の「彼女」と比べると、対照的な主人公である。
♪灰色の指先で毎日をなぞっても
♪数えても重ねても仕事場は流れ作業
プレス加工が彼の仕事なのだ。灰色のように目立たない男。彼には恋もそれほどの喜びではない。
チャップリンの映画を観るような、モノトーンの雰囲気。ただ、チャップリンなら、悲しい恋をしそうだけれど。
曲は淡々としたブルースっぽい感じ。『Blue Selection』のジャズ・アレンジも、最初に鳴るウッド・ベースが流れを創ってしみじみと快い。オリジナルとこちら、どちらも好き。
♪指先の色はいつしか変わって
♪とうに指紋はなくしてた
今日の朝刊（朝日新聞東京版）一面のトップは「指紋カードで出国審査」だった。眼や掌での照合システムは、映画などの中の話でなく、とうに実用の段階だったのですね。
